As an alternative to celebrating independence from the British 241 years ago, I’ll celebrate the possibility of independence from the Self in this very moment. Is it possible to use our own natural awareness to take a break from who we think we were, who we think we are, and who we think we could be? What would it be like to let go even if just for a moment, from maintaining our own expectations, upholding our self image, and comparing ourselves to others. Could there be a new kind of freedom there?
